LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California guard Jio Fontan is expected to miss the upcoming season after having surgery to repair a torn left anterior cruciate ligament.

The school says Fontan had the procedure Tuesday at the Kerlan-Jobe Surgery Center in Los Angeles.

The senior hurt his knee on Aug. 16 in a game during USC’s exhibition tour in Brazil.

Fontan averaged 10.5 points last season, when he was second on the team in assists and rebounding after sitting out the first semester after transferring from Fordham.
