OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Panelists tasked with redrawing Washington’s political maps are proposing drastically different ideas on how to incorporate the state’s new congressional seat.

The Washington State Redistricting Commission released several maps during a hearing Monday morning.

Commission members appointed by Democrats largely centered the new 10th District around Olympia, with one plan extending that district to the coast and the other extending it north toward Tacoma.

One of the Republican maps placed the district in areas south of Seattle. Another placed it along the Canadian border, compacting the 2nd District into an urban center anchored in Everett.

The commission will now take public comment on the maps and hopes to settle on a final plan by early November.
