GRAHAM, Wash. (AP) — Pierce County prosecutors have filed first-degree murder charges against a man who they say killed and buried his roommate in a shallow grave near Graham.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/oiZw0H) that bail for 50-year-old Kelly E. Merz was set at $2 million on Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Merz shot in the head his 33-year-old female roommate after an argument. They say Merz called his ex-wife after the shooting, crying and told her what happened. The ex-wife then called authorities.

Deputies found the woman’s body in a wooded area on Monday.
