HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) — Favorable firefighting weather has helped crews make significant progress toward getting Oregon wildfires under control.

Crews battling the Dollar Lake Fire burning on the north flank of Mount Hood say smoke has held over the blaze, keeping it calm. Lower temperatures and higher humidity kept the fire burning mostly low to the ground on Monday.

An additional 200 firefighters have been brought in to build a contingency line north of the blaze. Crews have installed nearly six miles of fire hose to keep the fire from advancing past Cathedral Ridge. The 6,200 acre fire was 40 percent contained.

Officials reported similar progress on the 10,000-acre Shadow Lake Fire near Sisters. Authorities have reopened a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail near one of the seven High Cascades complex fires.
