TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP) — French qualifier Victoria Larriere earned her first victory over a top-100 player Wednesday, beating fifth-seeded Magdalena Rybarikova 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Tashkent Open.
The 262nd-ranked Larriere, who qualified for her first WTA event, broke the Slovak in the seventh game of the first set and in the ninth game of the second. Serving for the match, Lerriere saved a break point and wrapped up the victory on her first match point.
Eva Birnerova rallied to beat seventh-seeded Evgeniya Rodina 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-1 and 2008 champion Sorana Cirstea advanced to the quarterfinals by beating qualifier Aleksandra Krunic 6-3, 6-4.
