Ocean Power Technologies Inc. will collaborate with Lockheed Martin on development of a proposed wave power generation project at Reedsport, Ore., that will be launched with a giant buoy being developed in Vancouver.
Lockheed Martin will provide design, manufacturing, system integration and supply chain management expertise to New Jersey-based Ocean Power Technologies for the next generation of wave energy technology, the company said Tuesday. The collaboration follows a $2.4 million U.S. Department of Energy contract with Ocean Power Technologies to promote renewable marine energy development.
Oregon Iron Works, based in Clackamas, Ore., is building the initial buoy’s steel structure at its Vancouver manufacturing site. Testing is under way on the buoy’s control system, which will be shipped to Vancouver for installation. The work should be completed in several months, and the buoy will be floated to Reedsport, said David Gibson, renewable energy program manager for Oregon Iron Works.
