RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — A Palestinian official says vandals have set fire to three cars in a West Bank village, and suspicion has fallen on Jewish settlers.

The Palestinian Authority official says residents of Beit Furik saw settlers drive into their village before dawn on Thursday and set the cars ablaze. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to talk to the media.

Israeli police had no immediate comment.

There has been an uptick in violence against both Palestinians and Israeli military and civilian targets in recent weeks.

The suspicion is that the acts are retaliation by settlers angry over the government’s destruction of three unauthorized buildings in a settlement outpost.
