BIRMINGHAM, Mich. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers’ receiver Braylon Edwards is suing a Michigan restaurant and three of its employees for more than $14 million for slander, extortion and malicious prosecution following an altercation.

The suit in Oakland County Circuit Court claims that $15 million in guaranteed money from an NFL team was rescinded after allegations surfaced that Edwards was directly involved in the Aug. 1 incident at Birmingham’s South restaurant.

Edwards, a former star at Michigan, says he “was forced to take a contract” with another team for “only $1 million in guaranteed money.”

The suit claims the altercation started when some patrons harassed Edwards’ party. Edwards says he left through a rear door.

The Associated Press left a message Wednesday seeking comment from the restaurant’s attorney.
