SOAP LAKE, Wash. (AP) — Firefighters in Grant County managed to save the downtown business district in the small central Washington town of Soap Lake after a fire broke out in a storefront.
Soap Lake Police Chief Jim Dorris saw the smoke while on routine patrol and reported the fire Thursday morning, as did the occupant of an apartment in the rear of the building. Responding firefighters found the storefront fully ablaze but managed to keep the fire from destroying two adjoining businesses.
The destroyed building housed a Christian-based youth outreach organization. An adjoining tattoo and piercing parlor and a storefront used for antiques storage suffered heat, smoke, water and fire damage.
Grant County Sheriff’s Office investigators are searching for the cause of the blaze. There were no injuries.
