Volunteer opportunities on both sides of Mount St. Helens will mark National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 24.

On the north side of the mountain, the Mount St. Helens Institute and U.S. Forest Service are seeking volunteers to help with trail work and invasive species and litter removal.

Workers will gather starting at 9:30 a.m. in the Coldwater Visitor Center, with work continuing from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A barbecue and raffle will follow at 3:30 p.m. People can get more information or sign up by calling 360-449-7883.

On Mount St. Helens’ south side, the Washington Trail Association and Swift Community Action Team will lead litter pickup and trail maintenance work at both the East Fork Trail and Forest Service Road 90. More information on those events is available at www.wta.org or 360-607-5732. Workers can arrive at 9 a.m. at the Pine Creek Information Center.
