PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Three helicopters remain over a wildfire on the north side of Mount Hood while the U.S. Forest Service begins to pull back its resources.
Welcome wet weather will help keep the Dollar Lake fire tamped down until conditions change. The weather is expected to warm on Sunday.
Crews and their supplies have been pulled off Cathedral Ridge on the west side of the fire, where much of the Forest Service firefighting activity was directed last week.
Forest Service teams are also making plans to deal with restoration and recovery of the burned areas and looking for ways to reduce erosion and run-off.
The Forest Service’s timing of the response to the blaze has raised questions with residents and prompted a letter from U.S. Rep. Greg Walden.
