Kudukhov defends title at wrestling worlds

ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) — Besik Kudukhov of Russia defended his freestyle wrestling world title in the 60-kilogram category on Saturday, beating Franklin Gomez Matos of Puerto Rico 5-0, 1-0.

It was the fourth world championship gold medal for Kudukhov, who took bronze at the Beijing Olympics.

Also Saturday, Sharif Sharifov from Azerbaijan and Iranian wrestler Reza Mohammad Ali Yazdani won their first titles.

Sharifov overcame Ibrahim Aldatov of Ukraine 2-0, 1-0 in the 84-kilo category, while Yazdani defeated Turkey’s Serhat Balci 4-0, 0-1, 1-0 in the 96-kilo final.
