EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Defenseman Drew Doughty hasn’t reported to the Los Angeles Kings’ training camp while waiting for a new contract.
The rest of the Kings reported to their training complex Friday for physicals and fitness testing. Workouts begin Saturday.
The 21-year-old Doughty is a restricted free agent seeking a lucrative long-term deal. General manager Dean Lombardi says Doughty isn’t going anywhere, but the sides still have significant differences.
Lombardi says it’s “disappointing” Doughty isn’t in camp.
Doughty was the second-youngest Norris Trophy finalist in NHL history after scoring 59 points in the 2009-10 season, but his production declined to 40 points last season after a slow start.
