Texas State tops Tarleton State 38-28

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Terrence Franks ran for three touchdowns and 74 yards to lead Texas State to a 38-28 victory over Tarleton State on Saturday night.

The Bobcats (1-2) led just 13-12 at halftime after a short touchdown dash by Franks and two field goals by Will Johnson, including one from 53 yards in the first quarter. Tarleton State’s first-half tally came on four field goals by Jerry Owens.

In the second half, the Texans (0-3) scored on a team safety, a touchdown pass from Nick Stephens to Roddy Green and a scoring run by Evan Robertson. Stephens led the game in passing with 256 yards.

The Bobcats added a touchdown run by Franks with a two-point conversion and eventually went ahead for good when Tim Hawkins ran 54 yards for a score late in the third quarter.

Franks ran for another TD and Johnson added another field goal in the fourth quarter.
