PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sidney Crosby is back at work with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The former MVP skated with his teammates on Saturday as the team opened training camp. Crosby hasn’t played since suffering a concussion in January.

Though he’s not cleared for contact yet, Crosby arrived to a loud ovation from the crowd at the Consol Energy Center when his familiar No. 87 appeared on the ice. Crosby said this month it’s “likely” he’ll play sometime this season but has not indicated when he’ll be ready.

The Penguins won’t rush Crosby back. The team expects to be competitive without him thanks to the return of Evgeni Malkin, who missed the second half of last season with a knee injury. Malkin appeared to be fine while scoring on a penalty shot during a scrimmage Saturday morning.
