PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sean Patterson threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as Duquesne cruised past Valparaiso 49-14 on Saturday in the first-ever meeting between the teams.
Patterson was 12 of 18 passing with 181 yards and also rushed for 51 yards on seven carries for the Dukes (2-1), who outgained the Crusaders 425-26 on the ground. Duquesne tallied 628 total yards of offense to 188 for Valparaiso (0-3), which has the longest losing streak in the FCS at 23 games.
Larry McCoy led the rushing onslaught for Duquesne, gaining 164 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Bill Blair added 154 rushing yards and a score on 16 carries.
Patterson’s TD passes of 66 yards to Connor Dixon and 4 yards to Ethan Dorsey helped put the Dukes up 28-0 at halftime. He connected with Isaac Spragg on a 6-yard touchdown that made it 42-0 midway through the third quarter.
