OSOYOOS, British Columbia (AP) — Two days of talks that will determine the water level of Lake Osoyoos in future years have opened in the town of Osoyoos, British Columbia.

A group called the International Joint Commission is in charge of making decisions about the lake, which straddles the border in central Washington.

A 25-year-old agreement that regulates lake levels and ensures enough water reaches Zosel Dam in Washington is up for renewel. Other issues that will be discussed at the meetings Monday and Tuesday include milfoil control, protection of water for fish and impacts of climate change and population growth.
