TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Fire officials say a blaze that broke out an elementary school in Tacoma Monday afternoon appears to be accidental.

Tacoma Fire spokesman Joe Meinecke says no one was injured in the fire reported just after 1 p.m. Students were not at Lowell Elementary Monday because of an ongoing teachers strike in the Tacoma School District.

He says the fire occurred in a secondary building on campus and was confined to the kitchen area used by teacher and staff. Officials are still investigating the cause but don’t believe it was suspicious in origin.
