SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A search effort nearly 100 officers-strong is set to continue across central Utah’s expansive mountain desert for signs of a mother of two missing since 2009.

West Valley City police Lt. Bill Merritt says teams will cover the rugged, rocky terrain near Topaz Mountain in Juab County Tuesday on foot, horseback, ATV and by helicopter.

The area is about 135 miles southwest of West Valley City, where Susan Powell was last seen by her family on Dec. 7, 2009.

Merritt says that over eight days, searchers have covered more than 50 square miles.

Crews from five county sheriff’s offices are assisting West Valley City.

Powell’s husband, Josh Powell, has been named the only person of interest in the case, but he’s never been arrested or charged.
