GREENWATER, Wash. (AP) — Two Yakima-area men were found safe Wednesday morning after they spent a night outdoors when they took a wrong turn on a hike near Greenwater, in the Cascade foothills north of Mount Rainier.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (http://bit.ly/qEXt44 ) 80-year-old Jim Barnhill of Yakima and 75-year-old Jon Harlan of Naches were part of an 18-member group that had hiked Tuesday to Noble Knob.

Barnhill’s wife Dolores says he called her Wednesday morning to say he and Harlan were safe. He said they simply got lost, spent a cold night and had resumed hiking when they ran into searchers.

Barnhill is a former publisher of the Yakima Herald-Republic.
