PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland’s urban renewal agency paid $148,000 in the past year in severance agreements with two top executives.
Public record obtained by The Oregonian show the Development Commission paid $63,000 to Erin Flynn who departed as director in April and $85,000 to Sandy Reina who left as human resources director in September 2010.
The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/qRiLxh) such payouts are typical when an elected official decides an at-will political hire is no longer preferred. As part of the severance, departing employees agree not to make derogatory comments.
The city’s assistant human resources director, Anna Kanwit, says the city can grant up to a year’s pay and extended medical benefits to a former employee.
