Letter: Republicans shelter the rich

Republicans have wasted no time in denouncing President Obama’s plan to tax wealthy Americans as a form of “class warfare.” Yet the president’s proposal would simply require the rich to pay the same percentage of taxes currently paid by middle-class Americans.

What’s wrong with that? Why are Republicans so opposed to the rich paying their fair share to reduce our deficit?

Warren Buffet, a prominent billionaire, who we have heard pays less taxes then his secretary, may have the answer. Reportedly, he once told ABC News “Well, I’ll tell you, if it’s ‘class warfare,’ my class is winning.”

By unfairly sheltering the rich, Republicans have turned their back on the middle class and left the burden of paying off the deficit to those who are already overburdened and struggling to make ends meet.
