CERT members are trained to check on neighborhood safety, suppress a small fire with a fire extinguisher, conduct light urban search and rescue, provide emergency medical aid and assist first responders after large events such as earthquake or floods, according to the Fire District 6 website.

Fire District 6 class starts Thursday night and will run every Thursday through Oct. 20 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. and two Saturdays, Oct. 1 and Oct. 22.

Vancouver Fire classes Start on Oct. 1 and run every Saturday through Oct. 22.

Classes cost $30. Space is limited.
