NEW YORK (AP) — Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona says he isn’t worried about his job status.
Boston was nine games ahead of Tampa Bay on Sept. 4 before a 4-14 skid left the Red Sox two games ahead of the Rays in the AL wild-card race Friday with six games left.
Some have questioned Francona’s job status, and he talked about that before Friday’s game against the New York Yankees.
Said Francona: “The organization not only has the right, but it’s their obligation to get the right person, the person they think is the best. If at some point they think it needs to be somebody else — other than that, I think it’s disrespectful for me to spend one waking moment think about my situation. We need to win games, to that’s how I intend to do it.”
