LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Marcus Hahnemann has become Everton’s second American goalkeeper after signing a short-term deal to compete with Tim Howard for a starting spot.
The 39-year-old Hahnemann has been without a club since being released by Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of last season. But Everton signed him until January to provide another goalkeeping option alongside regular starter Howard and backup Jan Mucha.
Everton manager David Moyes says Hahnemann “is experienced and will give us that bit of extra cover we were after.”
Hahnemann is a backup to the 32-year-old Howard on the U.S. national team. He’s also played in England for Reading and Fulham.
