Posey to catch for Giants next season

PHOENIX (AP) — Buster Posey will be the San Francisco Giants catcher next season. After that, who knows?

Putting to rest speculation that Posey would move to first base, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said before Friday’s game against Arizona that he will be behind the plate in 2012. Bochy said he was only speaking about next year and a position change could come after that to protect Posey’s health.

Posey, the NL Rookie of the Year, hasn’t played since May 25 after tearing three ligaments in his left ankle and fracturing a bone in his lower leg in a frightening home-plate collision with Florida’s Scott Cousins.

A key cog to San Francisco’s World Series run last season, Posey has worked hard to rehab his injury and is expected to be healthy by next season.
