COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The leader of the U.S. Olympic Committee says he isn’t buying predictions that the United States will finish behind Russia and China in the medal count at next year’s Olympics in London.

Addressing the USOC annual assembly Friday, chairman Larry Probst said, “I’d be willing to bet we don’t finish third.”

One recent projection had Russia winning the medal count, followed by China with the United States in third.

Probst also says the USOC is staying on track in trying to be a better partner in international circles, where the U.S. has had a mixed reputation, at best. Probst says he attended 18 international meetings in 13 countries in the past year with more set for 2012.
