INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Beijing Olympian and 2005 world champion Chellsie Memmel will miss next month’s Pan American Games because of a shoulder injury.

Memmel tweaked her right shoulder at last month’s U.S. championships. It’s the same shoulder she blew out at the 2006 world championships, causing her to miss most of the next two years.

Memmel participated in both world team selection camps. But national team coordinator Martha Karolyi passed her over for the world championships, saying Memmel wasn’t ready because of her shoulder. Worlds begin Oct. 7 in Tokyo and are the main qualifier for the London Olympics.

Grace McLaughlin is expected to replace Memmel at Pan Ams, which are Oct. 24-29 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
