COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — The head of cycling’s international body says the sport is winning the fight against doping.
UCI President Pat McQuaid says the federation’s drive to crack down on performance-enhancing drugs is “paying off” and cheaters are being caught.
McQuaid cited the UCI’s “biological passport” program for detecting evidence of blood doping.
He says “we are moving from a doping culture to an anti-doping culture.”
Speaking at the UCI’s one-day congress Friday, McQuaid singled out the success of this year’s Tour de France and said it would help attract new sponsors and race organizers worldwide.
The congress was held on the sidelines of the road world championships in Copenhagen.
