Vancouver — Celebrating the last week of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance’s Bike Commute Challenge, a downtown Vancouver civil engineering firm will be handing out coffee and cookies next week to bike commuters.

Amy Pope of Wallis Engineering said the firm is competing in the Portland-based challenge, as are other Vancouver companies and the city of Vancouver.

Employees will be handing out cookies and coffee to bike commuters 7:30 to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday at the corner of Fourth and Columbia streets. The competition pits workplace against workplace.

The workplaces with the highest percentage of commutes by bicycle during the month win.

Pope said Wallis Engineering, which has 26 employees, is at 78 percent.
