Oregon’s Class 2A defending champion made the plays when it had to in the second half and defeated visiting Woodland.

Cy Whitmire and Logan Piper scored the touchdowns for the Beavers in the first half as Woodland played Scio to 14-14 halftime draw.

Scio was able to pull away with two fourth-quarter TDs.

Woodland coach Mark Greenleaf said his team had 289 yards of offense compared to Scio’s 374, which was all rushing.

“It was a close game. We played hard,” Greenleaf said. “Now we get ready for our league opener.”
