COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — This might be the worst Steve Spurrier’s ever felt at 4-0.

The South Carolina coach was frustrated with his team’s offensive showing Saturday night that included six fumbles and four interceptions. Still, the Gamecocks left with a 21-3 victory over Vanderbilt and moved up two spots in the national rankings.

Spurrier said while the results are encouraging, the offensive execution has been awful. He apologized to fans for the team’s “putrid” showing. Spurrier said Sunday that it was the defense’s best showing in his seven years at South Carolina that led to the win.

Spurrier said the Gamecocks (2-0 Southeastern Conference) must improve offensively if they hope to return to the SEC title game.
