Obama criticizes GOP over disaster bill

MEDINA, Wash. (AP) — President Barack Obama is criticizing congressional Republicans over a partisan clash that’s blocked a disaster relief bill on Capitol Hill.

He says the very Republicans who are opposing the disaster relief represent some of the people who’ve been hit hardest by recent natural disasters.

Obama said that kind of argument never even used to happen. He cited it as an example of what he termed constant ideological pushback since he’s taken office.

The president made his comments Sunday to a small group of donors at a high-dollar fundraiser outside Seattle. It’s unclear how Congress will resolve the impasse over the bill to keep government agencies open and provide disaster aid, since Republicans want budget cuts opposed by Democrats to make up for the disaster money.
