AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — After holding a resurgent Wales scoreless for almost 30 minutes, Namibia’s mostly amateur bunch crumbled and conceded nine second-half tries to conclude a Rugby World Cup campaign that was short but not even bittersweet.

Center Scott Williams scored three of the 12 Welsh tries in an 81-7 win Monday which ensured Namibia was the first team to exit the 2011 tournament.

Namibia’s run lasted 17 days and culminated with two massive defeats in five days, following last week’s 87-0 loss to defending champion South Africa.

Japan’s campaign will last only one day longer, with John Kirwan’s lineup due to play Tuesday against a Canadian squad which has played only half of its four pool games and is coming off an eight-day break.
