A local man was in the Clark County Jail on Monday night, several hours after allegedly being caught throwing gasoline through a window of a house he owns at 2901 E. 13th St., in the Harney Heights neighborhood.

Rondell Lee Tendler, age unavailable, was being held without bail on suspicion of first-degree arson and is to appear in court Tuesday morning, a jail officer said.

Vancouver police say Tendler was preparing to set his house on fire. Witnesses saw him and called 911, said police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

When officials arrived about 1:30 p.m. Monday, there was no fire but a significant smell of gasoline, Kapp said.

Tendler is listed in county records as the owner, with Scarlet Tender, of the home. It is valued at $148,000.
