NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Gabe Ikard finds himself right in the middle of the action for second-ranked Oklahoma, and it’s a place he never wanted to be.
When close friend Ben Habern broke his forearm, it forced Ikard to shift from guard to become the Sooners’ starting center.
It’s a position he had never played at all until last year, and his most experience at center came when Habern missed part of training camp this summer.
Beyond snapping the ball to quarterback Landry Jones, Ikard now finds himself as one of the pacesetters for Oklahoma’s offense.
