SANDY, Ore. (AP) — A former elementary school volunteer has been charged with sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl.
The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/palKWY ) the alleged victim was a friend of 43-year-old Kenneth Cartlidge’s daughter.
Sandy, Ore., police spokesman Sgt. Ernie Roberts says Cartlidge volunteered at Firwood Elementary School’s chess club for two years. He faces one charge of first-degree sex abuse.
A school district spokeswoman says Cartlidge passed a national background check three years ago.
School officials have been meeting with parents to assure them of the school’s policies regarding background checks and student-safety measures.
