SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Spokane police have shot and killed a man who was armed and reportedly suicidal.

The Spokesman Review reports (http://bit.ly/qFwvC4) that the man had crashed his truck late Monday after a short police pursuit and was making threats from inside the overturned vehicle. Earlier he had made threats at his work.

Spokane police spokeswoman Jennifer DeRuwe says officers fired because the man posed a risk to the community, although she couldn’t immediately say if the man had shot at the officers.

The man’s identity was withheld. He was described as in his forties.

Witnesses say police tried to negotiate with the man using a bullhorn but those efforts weren’t successful.
