ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — New York Yankees catcher Russell Martin got an early exit after a brief exchange with home plate umpire Paul Schrieber.

Martin was ejected by Schrieber in the fifth inning of Monday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The catcher made some comments to Schrieber after Phil Hughes walked his second consecutive batter with two outs in the inning. The umpire then walked in front of Martin and shortly afterwards threw him out of the game.

It was the first time this season Martin has been ejected.
