PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — The Elwha River is flowing freely past the Elwha dam near Port Angeles as demolition work continues.

The Peninsula Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/n7LQTn ) the south spillway gates have been blasted down to bedrock and more blasting is planned next month on the north spillway.

The 108-foot tall Elwha Dam and the 210-foot tall Glines Canyon Dam are being removed in a three-year $325 million project to restore the Olympic Peninsula river and its salmon runs.
