BOLTON, England (AP) — Bolton says midfielder Stuart Holden will be out for six weeks because he requires a followup operation on the knee injury that kept him on the sidelines for six months.
Holden needed 26 stitches following a challenge by Manchester United defender Jonny Evans in a Premier League match in March.
He made his long-awaited return on Sept. 20 in the League Cup against Aston Villa. But now Bolton says Holden will undergo a “routine follow-up procedure.”
Manager Owen Coyle says “it was looking likely that the operation could be scheduled for next summer, but after followup consultations with the specialists we have brought the date forward.”
