YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — The third time was the charm.
The National Park Service announced Thursday that it has awarded a 10-year contract to Guest Services Inc. to manage a resort in the remote community of Stehekin.
The agency had put the contract out for bids twice before without success, but made significant upgrades to the existing facilities and altered the contract to make the venture more likely to be profitable.
GSI will manage a small lodge, restaurant, general store and other concessions in Stehekin for North Cascades National Park. The community sits at the end of Lake Chelan and is reachable only by boat, floatplane or on foot.
GSI currently operates concession facilities at Mount Rainier National Park and National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington, D.C.
