BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — A 23-year-old Bremerton man who reportedly told his grandparents that he was in a Mexican jail to get money is now behind bars.

The Kitsap Sun reports (http://bit.ly/pQJwpQ ) that the man’s mother told police he had called his grandparents in Arizona and asked for $6,500 for bail money, saying he was in Mexico. The man’s lie prompted his mother to call police.

Officers then arrested the man, who had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on a meth possession charge.

The man denied lying to his grandparents.
