Longshore union seeks to recall Cowlitz sheriff

KELSO, Wash. (AP) — The Longshore union has filed a recall charge against Cowlitz County Sheriff Mark Nelson.

It accuses him of wasting taxpayer dollars and violating civil rights, among other things.

Sheriff’s deputies have made hundreds of arrests in recent months at demonstrations and protests at a grain terminal at the Port of Longview where the union claims jobs.

KLOG reports a superior court judge will determine if there’s a legal basis for the recall. The union would then need to collect enough signatures to put the recall on the ballot.
