PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police have surrounded a downtown apartment complex to try to negotiate with man reportedly holed up with some sort of gun.

Sgt. Pete Simpson says officers responded to calls of the man making threats with a rifle or a kind of long-barreled gun. Police have blocked off several downtown blocks.

The man’s age or other details were not immediately available.

The Oregonian reports that neighbors describe the man to be in his 50s and a resident of the apartment complex for 20 years.
