PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland have taken a suspect into custody after surrounding a downtown apartment complex in response to reports of a man holed up inside with a gun.

The Oregonian reports early Thursday (http://bit.ly/qOZV2d ) that officers apprehended the suspect without incident after a roughly 6-hour standoff.

Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson said officers responded to calls of the man making threats with a rifle or a kind of long-barreled gun. Police blocked off several downtown blocks.

The man’s name, age and other details were not immediately available.

The newspaper reports that neighbors describe the man to be in his 50s and a resident of the apartment complex for 20 years.
