PHOENIX (AP) — While the bigger-name teams drew most of the attention this season, the Arizona Diamondbacks quietly piled up wins while nobody was looking.
And, yes, they like it that way.
Playing with the same kind of chip-on-the-shoulder attitude manager Kirk Gibson had in his playing days, the Diamondbacks head into the playoffs confident and ready to prove all the experts wrong for counting them out at the beginning of the season.
Picked to have another so-so season, Arizona won 94 games and captured its first NL West title since 2007.
The Diamondbacks open the playoffs with Game 1 of the NLDS at Milwaukee with ace Ian Kennedy going against Brewers right-hander Yovani Gallardo.
