PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A downtown Portland church will hold its annual “blessing of the animals” ceremony on Sunday to observe the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals.
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church says people and their pets will walk from the church after the 10 a.m. service to South Park Blocks for the ceremony.
KGW reports (http://bit.ly/qIGmYO) this year’s observance will include a reading of the names of animals who are sick or who have died in the past year.
