VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A southwest Washington man accused of fatally shooting his 69-year-old father, then burning his corpse has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

The Columbian reports (http://bit.ly/nIHh7A) that 42-year-old Troy A. Fisher of Brush Prairie appeared in court Friday. Trial is set for March 19.

Prosecutors say that nine days after shooting Edward Fisher, the younger Fisher started stealing $2,900 from the dead man’s bank account.

Fisher was arrested Sept. 19 after allegedly admitting to investigators that he shot his father twice Aug. 7 during a heated fight at their Brush Prairie home. Family members initially thought Edward Fisher was on vacation in Germany, but contacted sheriff’s investigators after growing suspicious of his whereabouts.
