BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Shakir Bell had another big game, rushing for 199 yards and two touchdowns, and Indiana State broke open a close game in the third quarter for a 38-28 win Saturday over South Dakota State.
Bell scored on runs of 30 yards in the third quarter and 4 yards in the fourth, helping extend a 10-9 halftime lead. He ran for a school-record 256 yards in the Sycamores’ previous game, a victory over Youngstown State.
Ronnie Fouch threw for 168 yards and a touchdown to Brock Lough, who also ran for a score, as Indiana State (4-1) moved to 2-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play for the first time since 1996.
Austin Sumner had 305 yards passing and a touchdown to Vince Benedetto for the Jackrabbits (1-4, 0-2), but was intercepted for a touchdown by Johnny Towalid late in the third quarter. Sumner and Tyrel Kool each added short scoring runs.
